Sextortion is a type of cyber-enabled extortion which involves the threat of sharing sexual information, images or clips to extort money from the victim, whether the images exist or not, the offence often takes place when the unknown offender persuades the victim to remove their clothes in front of their webcam and/or perform sexual acts.

This is done by giving the impression that this is a private act (which it is not). The offender, without your knowledge, is recording everything you do.  The offender will, shortly afterwards, threaten the victim. They may demand money and threaten to share images or videos with the victims friends on social media, or share publicly.

It is likely they will continue to ask for money even if the victim pays and It is likely they will share the images if they don’t pay.
